Southern Area Director
The Links, Incorporated

Greetings Link Sisters,

On behalf of the Southern Area Executive Committee and the Birmingham Cluster composed of the Birmingham (AL), Magic City (AL), and Tri-County (AL) chapters of The Links, Incorporated, it is my great pleasure to invite you to the 48th Southern Area Conference, June 4-8, 2025, in Birmingham, Alabama. Members from our Area’s seven states and the Commonwealth of The Bahamas will come together to celebrate The Magical Impact of Intentional Friendship and Service.

From its founding in 1871 through the end of the 1960s, Birmingham was considered the industrial center of the South. The city’s rapid growth and booming iron and steel industry from 1881 through 1920 earned it the nicknames The Magic City and The Pittsburgh of the South. In the 1950s and 1960s, Birmingham received national and international attention as a center of the civil rights struggle for African Americans. Locally, the movement’s activists were led by Fred Shuttlesworth, a fearless preacher who became legendary for his unwavering courage in the face of violence-particularly a series of racially motivated bombings that gave Birmingham the grim nickname “Bombingham.”

Our Birmingham Cluster and the Southern Area Executive Committee are working diligently to create a conference experience filled with dynamic, interactive, and engaging sessions and workshops. Additionally, we will share proven practices to help chapters develop effective strategies for achieving exemplary outcomes in our facets and signature programs. A special highlight of the conference will be the Blessing of the Quilts Ceremony, celebrating the culmination of our Quilts for Keeps project.

In collaboration with the International Trends and Services facet, members designed and crafted quilts for the Bahamas Scholars: Intentional Living Project. These inspirational quilts will be gifted to young women residing at the Links Dormitory in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. We hope the stories woven into these keepsakes will inspire and empower these young women throughout their educational journeys and beyond. Our conference schedule will also include time for fun activities and meaningful fellowship. My sisters, we have made remarkable progress in transforming the lives of women, children, and families in our communities.

Let us come together in Birmingham to celebrate our achievements and the Magical Impact of Intentional Friendship and Service!

A spectacular and magical experience awaits you!
