It’s OK Not to be OK: How to Cope with Social Anxiety Anxiety is one of the most common mental health disorders among children ages 3-17. Many middle schoolers struggle with the crippling and isolating effects of social anxiety—particularly after the COVID-19 pandemic. The life of a socially anxious student can be hard. After all, how can you be expected to perform in school, excel in sports and maintain your friendships at the same time? In this workshop, we will define social anxiety and discuss the most common symptoms shown in middle school students. We will talk about the importance of self-esteem, how to rediscover your authentic self, and why this will reduce social anxiety in the long run. Finally, we will review specific, evidence-based strategies to manage social anxiety and build lasting confidence. |
