  • Myth-Busting: The panel will address common misconceptions about collecting art, including the relationship between artistic value and price tags.
  • Finding Galleries: Participants will learn where to find galleries that feature African American art.
  • Connecting with Artists: The workshop will provide guidance on how to discover and connect with emerging and established artists.
  • Art Appraisal: Attendees will gain knowledge on how to appraise art, ensuring they make informed decisions when collecting.

This workshop seeks to empower participants by promoting the value of African American art and encouraging them to become active collectors.

Food Culture and the Legacy it Leaves

"Food Culture" will explore the rich food traditions and cultural significance within the African American community. Participants will discuss historical dishes such as Gumbo, Soup Joumou, and Mac and Cheese, highlighting their nutritional values and the importance of seasonal eating.

Key components of the workshop include:

  • Culinary Insights: Local chefs will be invited to share their culinary journeys, goals for preserving cultural food practices, and their experiences in the culinary arts.
  • Tasting and Demonstration: A tasting session will complement storytelling, allowing participants to engage with the flavors and history of these traditional dishes.
  • Discussions on Fresh Produce: Guidance on where to find fresh produce will be provided to promote healthy eating practices.
  • Food Evolution: The workshop will address how food has changed over time, particularly the influence of GMOs on traditional diets.

Hair Legacy: PERManently Natural

This workshop aims to educate mothers about the natural hair care journey. It will feature industry specialists who will discuss the right tools, products, and treatments to overcome common challenges. The workshop's goal is to empower women and boost their confidence in embracing their natural hair.

  • CROWN Act Legislation: Participants will learn about the CROWN Act, which addresses discrimination based on hair texture and style.

This workshop will focus on advocating for your child’s education, addressing biases, and securing necessary resources.  Additional focus areas include discussing education and inclusive programming while raising awareness for the needs of children who may be differently abled.

  • Scholarships: Exploring financial aid opportunities for educational support.

Legacy of Care: Prioritizing Black Maternal and Women’s Health

"Black Maternal Health/Women’s Health - Prioritizing You" will focus on various health changes experienced by Black women throughout different life stages, including pregnancy, postpartum, PMDD, menopause, and perimenopause.

Key features of the workshop include:

  • Safe Space for Discussion: Participants will have a supportive environment to talk about pregnancy challenges, hormonal changes, symptoms, and treatment options.
  • Educational Topics: The workshop will cover essential topics such as:
    • Recognizing the signs of various health changes.

Legacy of the Berry-Wine and Spirit Tasting

The workshop offers a unique experience that celebrates culture, community, and connection. This event will feature a carefully curated tasting of wines and spirits crafted by Black wine growers and spirits distillers.

New Legacy: Digital Literacy & Parenting in a Tech World

Focus: Navigating the challenges of raising children in a technology-driven environment. 

Workshop Objectives:

  • Managing Screen Time: Strategies for setting limits on device usage to promote a healthy balance between online and offline activities.
  • Monitoring Online Safety: Tools and techniques for keeping children safe online, including privacy settings, parental controls, and understanding the risks of various online platforms.
  • Teaching Responsible Tech Use: Guidance on how to instill values of responsible technology use in children, such as recognizing credible sources and understanding the implications of their digital footprint.
  • Cybersecurity: Insights into protecting personal information and recognizing online threats.
